Slava (Celebration)
Slava is a Serbian Orthodox Christian tradition that celebrates the patron saint of a family. Each family chooses a saint, often one that holds special significance, and commemorates this day annually. The celebration typically includes a special church service, followed by a festive meal with family and friends, where traditional foods are served.
During Slava, families perform rituals such as lighting candles and sharing bread, known as Slavski kolač, which is blessed by a priest. This event strengthens family bonds and cultural identity, emphasizing the importance of faith, heritage, and community in Serbian culture.
