Skyrian horses
Skyrian horses are a rare breed native to the island of Skyros in Greece. They are small, typically standing between 12 to 14 hands high, and are known for their sturdy build and strong legs. Their coat can vary in color, but they often have a distinctive dark bay or black appearance. These horses are well-adapted to the rugged terrain of their island home.
Historically, Skyrian horses were used as pack animals and for light draft work. They are known for their gentle temperament and intelligence, making them suitable for various equestrian activities. Today, efforts are being made to preserve this unique breed, which is considered a national treasure of Greece.
