Skylon
Skylon is a proposed spaceplane designed to take off and land like an airplane while being capable of reaching low Earth orbit. It utilizes a unique air-breathing engine that operates in two stages: it uses atmospheric oxygen during the initial ascent and switches to rocket fuel in space, making it more efficient than traditional rockets.
The design aims to reduce the cost of access to space, potentially enabling more frequent space travel and satellite launches. Skylon is being developed by Reaction Engines Limited, a British aerospace company, and represents a significant advancement in space transportation technology.
