Skua
The skua is a large seabird known for its aggressive behavior and scavenging habits. It belongs to the family Stercorariidae and is commonly found in the Southern Hemisphere, particularly in regions like Antarctica and the sub-Antarctic islands. Skua species are characterized by their strong wings, pointed tails, and a robust body, making them powerful fliers.
Skua primarily feeds on fish, but they are also known to steal food from other birds, a behavior called kleptoparasitism. They nest on the ground, often in colonies, and lay two to three eggs. These birds are important for the marine ecosystem, helping to control fish populations and clean up carrion.
