Sjogren's syndrome
Sjogren's syndrome is an autoimmune disorder that primarily affects the body's moisture-producing glands. It leads to dry eyes and dry mouth, as the immune system mistakenly attacks these glands. This condition can occur on its own or alongside other autoimmune diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis or lupus.
In addition to dryness, Sjogren's syndrome can cause fatigue, joint pain, and swelling. It may also affect other organs, including the kidneys and liver. Diagnosis typically involves blood tests and eye examinations, while treatment focuses on relieving symptoms and managing complications.
