Sir Arthur Sullivan
Sir Arthur Sullivan was a British composer, best known for his partnership with librettist W. S. Gilbert. Born on May 13, 1842, in London, he became famous for his comic operas, which combined witty lyrics with memorable melodies. His most notable works include The Mikado, H.M.S. Pinafore, and The Pirates of Penzance.
Sullivan was also a skilled conductor and wrote a variety of other music, including orchestral works, hymns, and choral pieces. He was knighted in 1883 for his contributions to music and remains a significant figure in the history of English musical theatre.
