Sinjska Alka
The Sinjska Alka is a traditional equestrian competition held annually in the town of Sinj, Croatia. It commemorates the victory of Croatian forces over the Ottoman Empire in the 1715 Battle of Sinj. The event features riders, known as "alkari," who compete to hit a small metal ring called the "alka" while galloping on horseback.
The competition takes place in August and is part of a larger festival that includes various cultural activities. The Sinjska Alka is recognized for its historical significance and is listed as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage, highlighting its importance to Croatian identity and tradition.
