Singaporean political system
The Singaporean political system is a parliamentary republic, where the President serves as the head of state and the Prime Minister is the head of government. The Parliament of Singapore is unicameral, consisting of elected Members of Parliament (MPs) who represent various constituencies. Elections are held every five years, and the ruling party has historically been the People's Action Party (PAP).
The political landscape is characterized by a dominant-party system, with the PAP holding a significant majority since Singapore's independence in 1965. While there are opposition parties, they have limited representation in Parliament. The system emphasizes stability and economic growth, with policies often focused on maintaining social harmony and national security.
