Simon Fraser
Simon Fraser was a Scottish explorer and fur trader known for his significant contributions to the exploration of western Canada in the early 19th century. Born in 1776, he played a crucial role in mapping the region and establishing trade routes for the North West Company. His explorations helped to expand European knowledge of the area and its resources.
In 1808, Fraser led an expedition down the river that now bears his name, the Fraser River, which flows through British Columbia. His journey was challenging, marked by difficult terrain and interactions with Indigenous peoples. Fraser's legacy is honored in various places, including Simon Fraser University, named in his memory.
