Sikh identity
Sikh identity is rooted in the teachings of Guru Nanak, the founder of Sikhism, and is characterized by a strong sense of community, spirituality, and equality. Sikhs believe in one God and follow the teachings found in their holy scripture, the Guru Granth Sahib.
A key aspect of Sikh identity is the Five Ks, which are five articles of faith that Sikhs are expected to wear. These include Kesh (uncut hair), Kanga (a wooden comb), Kara (a steel bracelet), Kachera (cotton undergarments), and Kirpan (a ceremonial sword), symbolizing their commitment to their faith and values.
