Side-Impact Crashes
A side-impact crash, also known as a lateral collision, occurs when a vehicle is struck from the side by another vehicle. These types of accidents often happen at intersections or when one vehicle runs a stop sign or red light. The impact can be particularly dangerous because the side of a vehicle typically has less protection than the front or rear.
In side-impact crashes, the risk of injury is higher for passengers seated on the side of the vehicle that is hit. To enhance safety, many modern vehicles are equipped with side airbags and reinforced side structures. Additionally, the use of seat belts can significantly reduce the risk of serious injury during such collisions.
