Sicca Syndrome
Sicca Syndrome, also known as Sjögren's syndrome, is an autoimmune disorder characterized by dry eyes and dry mouth. It occurs when the body's immune system mistakenly attacks the glands that produce moisture, leading to discomfort and potential complications. This condition can affect individuals of any age but is more common in middle-aged women.
In addition to dry eyes and mouth, Sicca Syndrome may cause fatigue, joint pain, and other systemic symptoms. It can occur alone or alongside other autoimmune diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis or lupus. Diagnosis typically involves clinical evaluation and specific tests to assess gland function.
