Shingon sect
The Shingon sect is a major school of Japanese Buddhism that emphasizes esoteric teachings and rituals. Founded in the early 9th century by the monk Kūkai, also known as Kōbō Daishi, Shingon focuses on the use of mantras, mudras, and mandalas to achieve enlightenment. It is rooted in the teachings of Vajrayana Buddhism, which originated in India.
Shingon practitioners believe in the concept of Buddha-nature, which suggests that all beings have the potential for enlightenment. The sect places a strong emphasis on meditation and the visualization of deities, particularly the cosmic Buddha Dainichi Nyorai. Shingon temples often feature intricate artwork and architecture that reflect its spiritual teachings.
