Shing-Tung Yau
Shing-Tung Yau is a renowned mathematician known for his work in the fields of geometry and theoretical physics. Born in 1949 in Shantou, China, he later moved to the United States and became a professor at Harvard University. Yau is particularly famous for his contributions to Calabi-Yau manifolds, which are essential in string theory.
In 1976, Yau proved the Yau-Tian-Donaldson conjecture, linking geometry and algebraic geometry. His research has significantly influenced modern mathematics and physics, earning him numerous awards, including the prestigious Fields Medal in 1982. Yau continues to inspire new generations of mathematicians and scientists.
