Shiite
Shiite, or Shia, is one of the two main branches of Islam, the other being Sunni. Shiites believe that leadership should have remained within the family of the Prophet Muhammad, specifically with his cousin and son-in-law, Ali. This belief has led to a distinct religious and cultural identity within the Muslim community.
The Shiite branch is characterized by its unique practices, beliefs, and interpretations of Islamic law. Shiites commemorate events such as the martyrdom of Imam Hussein, the grandson of Muhammad, during the month of Muharram. This observance highlights their emphasis on justice and the struggle against oppression.
