Shieldmaidens
Shieldmaidens were women in Norse mythology and history who took on roles similar to those of male warriors. They are often depicted as skilled fighters, participating in battles alongside men. The concept of shieldmaidens reflects the idea of gender equality in Viking culture, where women could engage in combat and earn respect as warriors.
These women are frequently associated with the Valkyries, mythical figures who chose those who would die and those who would live in battles. While historical evidence of shieldmaidens is limited, sagas and archaeological findings suggest that some women did indeed fight in wars during the Viking Age.
