Sh2-120
Sh2-120 is a bright emission nebula located in the constellation of Scorpius. It is part of a larger complex of star-forming regions and is known for its striking appearance, which is primarily due to the ionization of gas by nearby hot stars. The nebula is approximately 1,500 light-years away from Earth and spans about 30 light-years across.
This nebula is often studied by astronomers to understand the processes of star formation and the dynamics of interstellar gas. Sh2-120 is also associated with the H II region, where hydrogen gas is ionized by ultraviolet radiation from young, massive stars. Observations of Sh2-120 contribute to our knowledge of the lifecycle of stars and the evolution of galaxies.
