Shōin Juku
Shōin Juku was a private academy founded in the mid-19th century by Yoshida Shōin, a prominent Japanese intellectual and educator. Located in the town of Hagi, it aimed to teach students about Western knowledge, military strategy, and political reform during the late Edo period. The school attracted many young samurai and scholars who sought to modernize Japan.
The curriculum at Shōin Juku included subjects such as philosophy, history, and foreign languages, emphasizing critical thinking and practical skills. Many of its students later became influential figures in the Meiji Restoration, contributing to Japan's rapid modernization and transformation into a global power.
