Seychelles giant tortoise
The Seychelles giant tortoise is one of the largest tortoise species in the world, native to the Seychelles islands in the Indian Ocean. These tortoises can weigh over 200 kilograms (440 pounds) and can live for more than 100 years. They have a distinctive dome-shaped shell and sturdy limbs, which help them navigate their natural habitat of dry forests and grasslands.
These tortoises are herbivores, primarily feeding on grasses, leaves, and fruits. They play a crucial role in their ecosystem by helping to disperse seeds and maintain plant diversity. Conservation efforts are in place to protect the Seychelles giant tortoise, as their populations have been threatened by habitat loss and invasive species.
