Sexagenary Cycle
The Sexagenary Cycle is a traditional Chinese system used to count years, months, days, and even hours. It consists of a combination of two sets: the Heavenly Stems (10 elements) and the Earthly Branches (12 elements). By pairing these two sets, a cycle of 60 unique combinations is created, which repeats every 60 years.
This cycle is significant in various aspects of Chinese culture, including astrology, calendars, and festivals. Each year in the cycle is associated with specific characteristics and elements, influencing people's fortunes and personalities, as seen in practices like Chinese Zodiac and feng shui.
