Sempach Battle
The Battle of Sempach took place on July 9, 1386, near the town of Sempach in Switzerland. It was a significant conflict between the Swiss Confederation and the forces of the Habsburg dynasty, led by Duke Leopold III. The battle was part of the struggle for independence by the Swiss against Habsburg control.
The Swiss forces, numbering around 1,500, employed effective tactics and fought fiercely, ultimately defeating the much larger Habsburg army of approximately 6,000 soldiers. This victory solidified the reputation of the Swiss as formidable fighters and marked a crucial step in their quest for autonomy from external rule.
