Secure Deletion
Secure deletion is the process of permanently removing data from a storage device so that it cannot be recovered. This is important for protecting sensitive information, such as personal files or business records. Simply deleting a file often leaves traces that can be recovered with special software, which is why secure deletion methods overwrite the data multiple times, making recovery nearly impossible.
There are various tools and techniques for secure deletion, including software programs that follow standards like the DoD 5220.22-M method. Additionally, physical destruction of storage devices, such as hard drives, is another effective way to ensure that data cannot be retrieved.
