Screeching Owl
The Screeching Owl, also known as the Eastern Screech Owl, is a small owl native to North America. It typically measures about 6 to 10 inches in length and has a wingspan of 18 to 24 inches. This owl is known for its distinctive trilling or screeching calls, which can be heard at night. Its plumage varies in color, ranging from gray to reddish-brown, providing excellent camouflage in its woodland habitat.
Screeching Owls are primarily nocturnal hunters, feeding on small mammals, birds, and insects. They are cavity-nesters, often using abandoned woodpecker holes or tree cavities for shelter. These owls are solitary and territorial, marking their areas with vocalizations and visual displays.
