Schleswig-Holstein-Gottorp
Schleswig-Holstein-Gottorp was a historical duchy located in northern Germany, formed in the 16th century. It emerged from the division of the Duchy of Schleswig and the Duchy of Holstein, which were ruled by the House of Gottorp. The duchy played a significant role in the regional politics of northern Europe, particularly during the conflicts between Denmark and Sweden.
In 1773, the duchy was incorporated into the Danish Crown after the death of the last Gottorp duke. This transition marked the end of its independent rule, but the legacy of Schleswig-Holstein-Gottorp continues to influence the cultural and historical landscape of the region today.
