Schelling Point
A Schelling Point, also known as a focal point, is a concept in game theory that refers to a solution or outcome that people naturally gravitate towards in the absence of communication. It occurs when individuals must coordinate their actions without prior agreement, relying on common knowledge or shared expectations to make decisions.
For example, if two people are asked to meet in a city without discussing where, they might both choose a well-known landmark, like a statue or town square. This shared understanding helps them successfully coordinate their meeting, illustrating how a Schelling Point can facilitate cooperation in uncertain situations.
