Scapular Notch
The scapular notch is a small indentation located on the superior border of the scapula, which is the bone commonly known as the shoulder blade. This notch serves as a passageway for the suprascapular nerve and the suprascapular artery, important structures that supply the shoulder region.
Anatomically, the scapular notch is formed by the scapula's shape and is often covered by the transverse scapular ligament. This ligament can sometimes affect the passage of the suprascapular nerve, leading to potential nerve compression or injury, which may result in pain or weakness in the shoulder area.
