Saturday Night Massacre
The "Saturday Night Massacre" refers to a series of events that took place on October 20, 1973, during the Watergate scandal. It involved the dismissal of Archibald Cox, the special prosecutor investigating President Richard Nixon and his administration's involvement in the scandal.
On that night, Nixon ordered Attorney General Elliot Richardson to fire Cox. When Richardson refused, he resigned. Nixon then directed Deputy Attorney General William Ruckelshaus to carry out the order, but he also refused and resigned. Finally, Robert Bork, the Solicitor General, complied and fired Cox, leading to public outrage and calls for Nixon's impeachment.
