Saratoga campaign
The Saratoga campaign was a significant military engagement during the American Revolutionary War in 1777. It consisted of two battles fought in September and October near Saratoga Springs, New York. The campaign marked a turning point in the war, as the American forces, led by General Horatio Gates, successfully defeated the British army under General John Burgoyne.
The victory at Saratoga is often credited with persuading France to formally ally with the American colonies. This support provided crucial military assistance and resources, helping to shift the balance of power in favor of the Americans in their struggle for independence.
