Santiaguito
Santiaguito is a small stratovolcano located in Guatemala, near the larger Santa María volcano. It emerged in 1922 as a result of volcanic activity and has since been known for its frequent eruptions. The volcano is part of the Sierra Madre mountain range and is situated in the western highlands of the country.
The eruptions of Santiaguito are characterized by explosive activity and the production of ash clouds. It is monitored closely by the Guatemalan Institute of Seismology, Volcanology, Meteorology and Hydrology (INSIVUMEH) to ensure the safety of nearby communities. The volcano is a popular site for scientific research and tourism.
