Sangkuriang Legend
The Sangkuriang Legend is a traditional tale from Indonesia, particularly associated with the Sundanese culture. It tells the story of a young man named Sangkuriang who falls in love with his mother, Dayang Sumbi, not realizing her true identity. When she discovers the truth, she rejects him, leading Sangkuriang to seek revenge by attempting to create a massive dam to flood the land.
In his quest, Sangkuriang faces challenges and ultimately fails to complete the dam in time. In despair, he kicks his unfinished boat, which transforms into Gunung Tangkuban Perahu, a famous volcano in West Java. The legend serves as a cautionary tale about love, fate, and the consequences of one's actions.
