San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station
The San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station (SONGS) is a decommissioned nuclear power plant located in San Diego County, California. It was operated by Southern California Edison and began generating electricity in 1968. The facility had three reactors, which provided power to millions of homes in the region.
In 2013, the plant was permanently shut down due to safety concerns and issues with its steam generators. The decommissioning process involves dismantling the reactors and managing radioactive waste, which is expected to take several decades to complete.
