Samuel Ryder
Samuel Ryder was an English businessman and entrepreneur, best known for founding the Ryder Cup, a prestigious golf tournament. Born on March 24, 1858, in St. Albans, he initially made his fortune in the seed business, selling seeds to gardeners and farmers.
Ryder's passion for golf led him to sponsor a competition between American and British golfers in 1927, which eventually evolved into the Ryder Cup. This event has since become one of the most celebrated tournaments in professional golf, showcasing the best players from the United States and Europe. Samuel Ryder passed away on January 2, 1936.
