Salt Licks
A salt lick is a natural deposit of mineral salts that animals, particularly herbivores, consume to obtain essential nutrients. These licks are often found in areas where the soil is rich in minerals like sodium, calcium, and magnesium. Animals such as deer, elk, and cattle are attracted to these sites, as they help fulfill dietary needs that may not be met through their regular food sources.
Salt licks can also be artificially created by farmers and wildlife managers to promote animal health and attract wildlife for observation or hunting. These licks are typically made from blocks of salt or mineral supplements and are placed in strategic locations to encourage animal visits.
