Salchow
The Salchow is a figure skating jump named after the Swedish skater Ulrich Salchow, who first performed it in 1909. It is an edge jump, meaning the skater takes off from the back inside edge of one skate and lands on the back outside edge of the opposite skate. The jump typically involves one or more rotations in the air, depending on the level of difficulty.
In competitive figure skating, the Salchow is often executed as a single, double, or triple jump. It is a fundamental element in both singles and pairs skating, contributing to the overall technical score in competitions. Skaters like Yuzuru Hanyu and Michelle Kwan have successfully incorporated the Salchow into their routines.
