Saint Polycarp
Saint Polycarp was a Christian bishop of Smyrna, now known as İzmir in Turkey, who lived during the 2nd century. He is considered one of the Apostolic Fathers, meaning he was a direct disciple of the apostles, particularly Saint John. Polycarp is best known for his steadfast faith and his role in the early Christian church.
He was martyred around 155 AD, refusing to renounce his faith despite being threatened with death. His martyrdom is documented in the "Martyrdom of Polycarp," which describes his bravery and the miraculous events surrounding his execution. Polycarp is celebrated as a saint in various Christian traditions, including the Roman Catholic Church and the Eastern Orthodox Church.
