Saint Marie of the Incarnation
Saint Marie of the Incarnation, born in 1599 in France, was a significant figure in the early history of New France, now part of Canada. She was a Ursuline nun who dedicated her life to education and the spiritual development of Indigenous peoples. In 1639, she co-founded the first Ursuline convent in Quebec City, where she established a school for girls.
Throughout her life, Saint Marie worked tirelessly to promote the Catholic faith and improve the lives of the local communities. She is known for her writings, which provide insight into the challenges and experiences of early missionaries in North America. She passed away in 1672 and was canonized in 1980.
