Saint Marguerite Bourgeoys
Saint Marguerite Bourgeoys was a French nun and educator born in 1620 in Troyes, France. She is best known for founding the Congregation of Notre Dame in 1658, which aimed to provide education to young girls in the New World. In 1653, she traveled to Montreal, Canada, where she dedicated her life to teaching and helping the local community.
Marguerite played a significant role in the early development of education in Canada. She established the first school in Montreal and worked tirelessly to promote the importance of education for girls. She was canonized as a saint by the Catholic Church in 1982, recognizing her contributions to education and her commitment to faith.
