Saint Kilian
Saint Kilian was an Irish missionary who lived during the 7th century. He is best known for his efforts to spread Christianity in what is now Germany. Kilian traveled with a group of companions and is credited with converting many people to the Christian faith in the region of Franconia.
Kilian's mission ultimately led to his martyrdom around 689 AD. He was killed for opposing the marriage of a local nobleman, which he deemed immoral. Today, Saint Kilian is venerated as the patron saint of Franconia and is celebrated on July 8th each year.
