Saint Isaac Jogues
Saint Isaac Jogues was a French Jesuit missionary born in 1607. He traveled to North America in 1636 to spread Christianity among the Indigenous peoples, particularly the Huron tribe. Jogues faced many challenges, including captivity by the Iroquois and harsh living conditions, but he remained dedicated to his mission.
In 1646, after enduring significant hardships, he was martyred by the Iroquois in what is now New York. Saint Isaac Jogues is recognized as a saint in the Catholic Church and is celebrated for his bravery and commitment to his faith, particularly on his feast day, October 19.
