Saint Ferdinand
Saint Ferdinand, also known as Ferdinand III of Castile, was a Spanish monarch born in 1199. He is best known for his role in the Reconquista, the centuries-long effort to reclaim the Iberian Peninsula from Muslim rule. Ferdinand united the kingdoms of Castile and Leon and was instrumental in the conquest of Seville in 1248.
Ferdinand was canonized as a saint by the Catholic Church in 1671, recognized for his piety and dedication to the Christian faith. His feast day is celebrated on May 30. He is often depicted in art wearing royal attire and holding a sword, symbolizing his military achievements and devotion.
