Saint Edmund Campion
Saint Edmund Campion was an English Jesuit priest and martyr born in 1540. He is best known for his efforts to promote the Catholic faith during a time of intense religious conflict in England. Campion was educated at Oxford University and initially worked as a writer and scholar before converting to Catholicism and joining the Society of Jesus.
In 1580, Campion returned to England as a missionary, where he faced persecution for his beliefs. He was arrested in 1581 and executed for treason, refusing to renounce his faith. His courage and commitment to his beliefs led to his canonization as a saint by the Catholic Church in 1970.
