Saint Bernardine of Siena
Saint Bernardine of Siena was an Italian Franciscan friar born in 1380. He is known for his powerful preaching and efforts to promote the Christian faith during a time of social and political unrest in Italy. Bernardine emphasized the importance of the name of Jesus and used the symbol of the monogram IHS in his teachings.
He founded the Bernardine movement, which aimed to reform the Church and society. Saint Bernardine traveled extensively, spreading his message and attracting many followers. He was canonized as a saint by Pope Nicholas V in 1450, and his feast day is celebrated on May 20.
