His followers believe he was a reincarnation of the saint Sai Baba of Shirdi, and he gained a large following both in India and internationally.
Puttaparthi, his birthplace, became a major pilgrimage site, attracting millions of devotees. Sai Baba established the Sri Sathya Sai Organization, which focuses on education, healthcare, and community service.
