SS Monterey
The SS Monterey was a passenger liner built in 1931 by the Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company. It was designed for the Matson Navigation Company to operate between the United States and Hawaii. The ship was known for its Art Deco style and luxurious amenities, catering to travelers seeking comfort and elegance during their voyages.
During World War II, the SS Monterey was converted into a troop transport ship, serving the U.S. military. After the war, it returned to commercial service but was eventually retired in 1970. The ship remains a notable example of early 20th-century maritime design.
