SS Great Western
The SS Great Western was a pioneering steamship designed by the famous engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel. Launched in 1837, it was the first steamship built specifically for transatlantic travel, connecting England and North America. The ship was notable for its innovative design and large size, measuring 236 feet in length.
The SS Great Western played a crucial role in the development of ocean travel, significantly reducing the time it took to cross the Atlantic. It could carry both passengers and cargo, making it an important vessel for trade and immigration during the 19th century. Today, it is preserved as a museum in Bristol, England.
