S-Video
S-Video is a video signal format that separates the brightness and color information of a video image. This separation allows for better image quality compared to composite video, where both signals are combined. S-Video uses a 4-pin mini-DIN connector, making it a common choice for connecting devices like DVD players, VCRs, and older video game consoles to televisions.
The format transmits video in a resolution of up to 480i, which is suitable for standard-definition displays. While it has largely been replaced by higher-quality formats like HDMI, S-Video remains popular for retro gaming and connecting older equipment, providing a simple way to achieve improved video clarity.
