Rus' Chronicles
The "Rus' Chronicles" are a collection of historical texts that document the early history of the Kievan Rus', a federation of Slavic tribes in Eastern Europe. These chronicles, primarily written in the Old East Slavic language, provide insights into the political, social, and cultural life of the region from the 9th to the 12th centuries. They are crucial for understanding the formation of Russia, Ukraine, and Belarus.
The most notable of these texts is the "Primary Chronicle," attributed to the monk Nestor. It recounts the legendary origins of the Rus', including the arrival of the Varangians, and details significant events, such as the reign of Vladimir the Great and the Christianization of the region.
