A root canal is a dental procedure used to treat infection or damage in the pulp of a tooth. The pulp contains nerves and blood vessels, and when it becomes inflamed or infected, it can cause severe pain. During the procedure, a dentist removes the infected pulp, cleans the inside of the tooth, and seals it to prevent further issues.
After a root canal, the tooth may be restored with a crown or filling to protect it and restore its function. This treatment can save a tooth that might otherwise need to be extracted, allowing patients to keep their natural teeth.
