Romanian Democratic Convention
The Romanian Democratic Convention (CDR) was a political alliance formed in 1996 in Romania. It brought together several opposition parties, including the Romanian National Peasant Party and the Romanian Social Democratic Party, to challenge the ruling Romanian Democratic Party. The CDR aimed to promote democratic reforms and economic development in the country.
In the 1996 elections, the CDR successfully won a majority, leading to the presidency of Emil Constantinescu. The coalition focused on implementing market-oriented policies and strengthening democratic institutions. However, internal disagreements and economic challenges eventually led to its decline in the early 2000s.
