Roman-Germanic Wars
The Roman-Germanic Wars were a series of conflicts between the Roman Empire and various Germanic tribes from around 9 AD to 106 AD. These wars were primarily fought to expand Roman territory and secure its borders against the growing threat of Germanic invasions. Notable battles included the Battle of the Teutoburg Forest in 9 AD, where the Romans suffered a significant defeat.
The wars involved various tribes, such as the Cherusci led by Arminius, who successfully ambushed Roman legions. Over time, the conflicts contributed to the decline of Roman influence in northern Europe, ultimately leading to the establishment of Germanic kingdoms in the region.
